Meet the board!

Tristan van der Schaaf

Hello everyone,

My name is Tristan van der Schaaf, and this year I am the Chair of Olympus. I study Mathematics, in which I have just started my Master’s. During my Bachelor’s, I already had the pleasure of serving as a board member of W.S.V. Desda and as Chair of the Faculty Student Council.

From this, you might gather that I can sometimes be a bit of a workaholic. However, I also like to keep myself busy in my free time. I enjoy reading, playing Mario Kart or Pokémon, and taking spontaneous trips across the country on weekends or days off.

As Chair, I have a very broad set of responsibilities. I am the face of Olympus and bear responsibility for the overall functioning of the board. To this end, I attend many meetings to represent the students of our faculty, both within and outside the faculty. I also chair a monthly meeting with the other student organisations within our faculty and aim to be approachable to any student who wishes to reach out to Olympus. Most importantly, you can always come to me if something is up; 99% of the time, I can help you myself, and if not, I’ll probably know someone who can.

If you’d like to get in touch with me, you can send me an email (zeus.olympus@science.ru.nl) or visit the board rooms at the end of the 5th wing in the Huygens building.

Sofía Weggen

Hola everyone!

My name is Sofía Weggen, and I am the herald of the gods, Hermes: the secretary of Olympus. I am 20 years old and currently in my third year of the Bachelor’s in Computing Science, which I will hopefully finish this year.

I live in Nijmegen, but I come from the beautiful town called Duiven (which means pidgeons in English). You might know it from the first Dutch Ikea, or Intratuin’s Christmas World if you ever hunted for a parking spot just to see it.

As secretary, my main tasks include taking minutes during meetings and sending out emails. During the week, you can usually find me in the boardrooms in Huygens or in Mercator, either busy working or just chatting.

Feel free to stop by for a chat or if you have any questions. You can also reach me by email at hermes.olympus@science.ru.nl.

Niels Giesbers

Hello! My name is Niels Giesbers, I am 23 years old and I am the treasurer of the XXXth board of Olympus. I am a fourth year biology student. This year I will hopefully be finishing my bachelor’s degree with a focus on ecology. I am also active within BeeVee, the biology study association.

As the treasurer of Olympus I handle the bookkeeping, the budgeting and the paying of the bills. I also help the other board members where needed. In my free time I like to listen to music. I also like to take pictures, although I notice that I have less time for this nowadays. I like to take walks in nature and see what type of cool plants and animals I can find. I also like to go bouldering or for a little run.

If you have any questions about something related to Olympus, feel free to find in the board rooms or just when you see me around the Huygens building. Otherwise, feel free to email me: hades.olympus@science.ru.nl

Thomas Jansen

Hi everyone,

My name is Thomas, and I am 20 years old. I will be entering my 3rd year of my bachelor’s in computing science. Which I hope to finish next year.

I am the Chief of Faculty Affairs of the XXX board of Olympus. My role is to keep in contact with the faculty and represent our study associations. Outside of that, I am also the first contact point for problems around the canteens.

My favorite thing to do is to go on vacation with my motorcycle, but I also love to hang out with Thalia, the study association of computing science.

You can always find me for questions either in the 5th wing of Huygens or in Mercator. But of course you can always send me an email at hestia.olympus@science.ru.nl

Diede Mulders

Hey there,

My name is Diede, I’m 19 years old, and this year I’m serving as Chief of Activities on the XXX board of Olympus. I’m currently in my third year of physics, and I’m super excited to organize the Olympus activities this year. From BeestFeest to the Betagala and everything in between, I’ll make sure our events run smoothly (and of course, I’ll join in the fun myself).

Outside of Olympus and my studies, I try to find a good balance between being active and relaxing. I enjoy running or taking a late-night walk, but I also love going to the movies or hanging out at a cafe with friends. I also love reading, and combining that with good conversation and a drink is what makes it perfect for me.

If you ever have an idea for an activity, want to ask a question, or just want to chat, you can usually find me in the boardrooms, or you can reach me at dionysos.olympus@science.ru.nl.

Luuk Crijns

Yooo, my name is Luuk and I am the General Board Member for Olympus this year. I don’t have a whole lot of predetermined tasks on the Olympus board. (I’m mainly responsible for the coffee machine.) However, I am also the Treasurer of Tartarus! That means I will be concerned with all sales in the canteens, like borrels (drinks) and tosti’s (grilled cheese).

I am a fourth year Mathematics student and active at Desda, where I also did a board year and a lot of committee work. Furthermore, I play videogames, I like to go out, and I love borrels. (I’m not a benefactor of the entire factulty for nothing!)

My appointed god is Demeter, the Olympian goddess of the harvest. Besides that, for my function on the Tartarus board I am Kronos, the titan of the harvest, not to be confused with Chronos. If you have any questions of remarks for me, you can reach me via demeter.olympus@science.ru.nl or kronos.tartarus@science.ru.nl.
